1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (197 sites): Palmer Report: The brilliant move that Nancy Pelosi just pulled off against Donald Trump and the Republicans

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi just keeps racking up wins over Donald Trump, partly because she expertly knows how things work, and Trump largely doesn’t. Take for instance the procedural maneuver that Pelosi just pulled off which, regardless of how the vote goes, will end up helping the Democrats and harming Trump and the Republicans.

Nancy Pelosi and her allies like Joaquin Castro introduced what’s called a “privileged resolution” to bring an end to Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration. This means that not only will it be voted on in the House (where it’ll pass), it will also have to be voted on in the Senate; Mitch McConnell can’t block it. It also only needs a simple majority to pass, thus sidestepping the sixty vote supermajority that sometimes derails Senate votes.

This means that just four Republican Senators have to vote for this resolution, and it’ll pass the Senate. There’s buzz right now that there may indeed be four or more such votes. We’ll see if that happens, or if the GOP ends up being as big a bunch of cowards as ever. But that’s not what matters here.

Even if this resolution passes the House and Senate, it’ll still be vetoed by Trump, and there won’t be enough votes to override the veto. However, passing this resolution isn’t the point. Trump’s national emergency will be blocked by the courts anyway. The point here is to force the vote to happen.

Every single Republican in the House and Senate will have to vote for or against Donald Trump’s national emergency. This will hurt Trump because at least some Republicans will vote against him on this, which will weaken him and begin to isolate him from his own party.

This will also hurt several Republicans in the House and Senate. When casting their vote for or against Trump’s national emergency, they’re having to guess right now how their constituents back home will view Trump by 2020, and they’re having to commit themselves to it with this vote. Some of these Republicans will guess wrong, and when they seek reelection in 2020, the Democrats will be able to use their vote against them.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (197 sites): Palmer Report: Donald Trump is already having a bad week, and it’s rapidly getting even worse

This has been a bad week for Donald Trump. He was clearly hoping that William Barr would shut down the Mueller investigation this week, and that did not happen. Trump’s Labor Secretary Alex Acosta was in the news for a plea deal he brokered that broke the law, and New York State has criminal charges ready to file against Paul Manafort, greatly weakening Trump’s power to pardon him, and sending a clear message to others who might hope for a pardon from the president.

Yet one big story went underreported this week. It is the story connecting the dots between not only convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump, but also Donald Trump and other sex offenders, and how it relates to the Trump-Russia scandal. Donald Trump’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein go beyond just two friends hanging out.

As reported by the Huffington Post in June of 2016, Donald Trump was credibly accused of raping a thirteen-year-old girl at a party hosted by Jeffrey Epstein. This accusation against Donald Trump is consistent with the criminal charges leveled against Jeffrey Epstein, which included rape of underage girls as well as soliciting underage girls for the sexual gratification of his friends. While news outlets are reporting about Trump’s friendship with Epstein, I have not heard anyone bring up the charges that were brought against Trump regarding an incident that allegedly took place at Epstein’s home and involved a then thirteen-year-old girl.

Trump also has ties to alleged pedophile George Nader, and of course his friend Robert Kraft was charged this week with patronizing a massage parlor where young Asian women were held against their will. Kraft denies any wrongdoing, but law enforcement officials claim to have tapes of Kraft engaging in sex acts inside the establishment.

Besides Trump’s friendships with pedophiles and other accused sex offenders, there is also his own words and behavior. Mariah Billado, the former Miss Vermont Teen USA, told Buzzfeed in 2016, that Trump entered the dressing room of the 1997 pageant unannounced while several young women were undressed. Trump reportedly said something like: “Don’t worry, ladies, I’ve seen it all before” to the undressed teenagers.

Half of America is currently speculating what kind of compromising information the Russian government has on Donald Trump. The speculation includes alleged tapes of Trump with prostitutes. In light of Trump’s friendships with pedophiles and sex offenders, is it possible that the prostitutes in the alleged tape of Donald Trump are underage? That would certainly make the alleged tape far more damaging and it would give the Kremlin more power over Trump.

Trump-Russia investigation | The Guardian: Paul Manafort seeks leniency from judge as he faces life in prison

Lawyers for former Trump campaign chair suggest he is victim of circumstance whose crimes were ‘garden variety’

Paul Manafort, the longtime political consultant who once led Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, asked a federal judge for leniency Monday as he faces the potential of spending the rest of his life in prison in criminal cases stemming from the Russia investigation.

In a new court filing, Manafort’s attorneys painted the 69-year-old as a victim of circumstance, prosecuted by special counsel Robert Mueller only because the government could not make the case that he colluded with the Kremlin’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. They also dismissed the prosecutors’ characterization of Manafort as a hardened criminal, saying he was merely a wealthy consultant who committed “garden variety” crimes by illegally lobbying for Ukrainian interests and hiding millions from the IRS.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (197 sites): Palmer Report: Donald Trump goes completely off the rails and is spiraling out of control

Today is not the first time in which Donald Trump has carried out a public feud with a cancer patient, and it’s not the first or the tenth time in which Trump has carried out a feud with a black public figure while questioning that person’s intelligence. But this morning stood out as being remarkable because Trump simultaneously carried out a feud with a cancer patient and a black public figure, as he appeared to be trying to create a mess on as many fronts as possible.

After Spike Lee used his Academy Awards speech last night to encourage people to vote in 2020 for morally superior candidates, Donald Trump accused Lee this morning of having given a “racist” speech. Trump also implied that Lee was too stupid to give a speech without notes, and that he was too illiterate to even read his own notes. This was remarkable, considering that Trump’s own tweets suggest he’s semi-illiterate, and he’s easily the worst teleprompter reader in modern political history.

Then Donald Trump lashed out at former Senator Harry Reid, who is now battling cancer. Trump falsely claimed that Reid was run out of politics (he retired), and accused Reid of career long dishonesty. As per usual, this was a matter of Trump projecting his own failings on others. But what stood out is that Trump was clearly, desperately, looking to create a distraction this morning.

A couple hours later, Alva Johnson accused Donald Trump of trying to kiss her while she was working for his 2016 campaign. Trump knew this story was coming out today. So were his Twitter antics this morning a way of trying to distract the media and the public from that, or is there another big shoe yet to drop? Just how poorly does Trump expect his Kim summit to go? Are Trump’s criminal scandals about to get even worse for him? Stay tuned. Trump is even more out of control than usual.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (197 sites): Palmer Report: Donald Trump Jr goes on Fox & Friends and has surreal meltdown

Donald Trump Junior, white Christian extraordinaire, has just exposed who he really is. In his last gasp before the Office of Special Counsel takes him down, he went on Fox & Friends to talk about reincarnation. Really.

The Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh and Jainist religions have beliefs that are based on reincarnation and past lives. The quote from Don Jr. is, “There are no actual crimes. There’s only things that people did in past lives, in 2006 before we even thought we’d ever get into this crazy world.” What? First of all, is he seeing dead people? And if not, since these people’s past lives were in 2006, are these people children he’s talking about?

What seems to be their ploy now is to talk about something as if it were ancient history. Trump, in his defense of Labor Secretary Alex Acosta, exclaimed that not only was Acosta “a great Labor Secretary,” but Acosta’s offense for letting a pedophile off with a slap on the wrist after racking up dozens of charges “seems like a long time ago.”

Sorry Don Jr. We see you. And we really see your father. Manafort’s crimes were in real time during the campaign. There is also this thing called Signals Intelligence. If you think Robert Mueller has to go looking for crimes while your father chats away on an unsecured cell phone to God-knows-who, we know the word, intelligent, doesn’t apply to your family.

The other thing Don Jr. spouted off this morning was the, “old Stalinist tactic” of: You find the man; we’ll find the crime. Well, if you’d only done the most cursory homework on the government your family was about to work for, you’d understand that we don’t need a judge to sign off on a warrant to tap your father’s phone calls. We will get the conversations perfectly legally from all our allies who listen to unsecured, high-level conversations as part of their intelligence gathering operations. This is why your father was urged to use a secure device. These countries share with us all the time. Mueller knows everything. Bye bye, junior and daddy. Enjoy ADX Florence, or a similar maximum security facility, for the rest of your lives. You are both done for.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (197 sites): Palmer Report: Sean Spicer is back and everything is horrible

Do you like your entertainment to be extra spicy, and full of lies? If so, tune in to the long-standing American entertainment news program, “Extra.” It now employs former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer as a Special D.C. Correspondent. This may be the most obvious clue yet as to how the next two years are forecast to play out.

The show, Extra, is known for its lighthearted entertainment news coverage, often promoting newly released films, and their stars. Time Warner must have seen an opening in crossing over to a hybrid of entertainment-political news. If this is an indication of how coverage of the 2020 election cycle will go, then color me unimpressed. Trump seems to have strengthened a bridge between Hollywood and Washington, D.C., and has attempted to capitalize on actor/president Ronald Reagan’s image. He has failed, but it does not keep the gravy train from rolling along anyway.

One can only guess what direction Time Warner, a subsidiary of the conglomerate Charter Spectrum, will take with its new D.C. correspondent. So far, Spicy has interviewed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and we can only guess at what softball questions he fed the Trump-loving Pompeo. Will this be aired on Extra, and if so, where is the popcorn?

In this age of information warfare, every news media outlet (including Palmer Report) should be extra scrutinized by the public to ensure misinformation is not being bandied about. Any legitimate news outlet should welcome this level of scrutiny, from the smallest of blogs to the largest of media monopolies. Therefore, we have to examine why Sean Spicer, formerly of the Trump administration, is has been chosen to deliver entertainment-style political misinformation heading into 2020.

Michael Novakhov – SharedNewsLinks℠: A pragmatic pact formed in Poland – Opinion

A pragmatic pact formed in Poland

PARTICIPANTS POSE for a photo during the Middle East summit in Warsaw earlier this month..

The 60-nation strong conference held in Warsaw last week, intended to “Promote a Future of Peace and Security in the Middle East,” might actually bear fruit. The overarching goal was to achieve a durable peace with normalized multilateral relations between pragmatic nations in the Middle East, or the “ultimate deal,” as US President Donald Trump refers to it. Such peace will unfortunately take more time to ripen, but several key achievements were accomplished in Warsaw en route to the grand goal.

The first is in the conference commencement itself. The fact that a key European capital hosted 60 world leaders, united to confront one common and critical threat – Iran – is significant. Reversing the futile policy of appeasing Iran, which began with Trump’s “Riyadh address” in May 2017, has now become a reality with a large alliance committed to resist Iran’s aggression and manipulation. Even if Germany, home to the conglomerate that helped build an Iranian reactor, has once again chosen the wrong side of history, the alliance against the Iran regime is strong and mounting.

After discrete diplomacy between Israel, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and others in the region over the past decade, this is the first time the leader of the Jewish state and leaders of the prominent Muslim states candidly and productively conversed with a common goal for all to see. Dennis Ross, the US diplomat who served as special Middle East coordinator under Bill Clinton, and who chaired a panel at the conference, said, “There were actual exchanges. That was new and different.” The late Shimon Peres might have envisioned the New Middle East to look like this.

Those who don’t fully realize Iran’s concern over the summit should tune into its state-run Press TV broadcasts to appreciate the conference’s achievement and the Ayatollahs’ attempts to downplay it. A few Western critics also tried downplaying the dramatic setting, dismissing it as nothing more than a politically motivated stunt, timed and intended for internal affairs related to the reelection of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and to bolster opinion polls for the American president, with 58 leaders of other world powers serving as props.

Nonsense.

The same critics made similar statements after Netanyahu’s 2015 speech before a joint session of Congress and a disgruntled president, in an attempt to derail the nuclear deal with Iran. The byproduct of that speech did help Netanyahu get reelected, but more importantly, it eventually helped convince American lawmakers to promote a withdrawal from that dire deal.

TIME WILL TELL if the 2019 pact in Poland was as historic as some see it. In the meantime, we can ponder on the statements made by Bahrain Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, who said, “We grew up talking about the Palestine-Israel dispute as the most important issue that we have to see solved… but then at a later stage we saw a bigger challenge. We saw a more toxic one – in fact the most toxic one in our modern history – that came from the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

And Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said, “Iran plays a destructive role everywhere in the region. Look at the Palestinians – who supports Hamas? Who is making a mess in Syria? Iran. Who is trying to smuggle chemical weapons to Kuwait and Bahrain? Iran… If we want peace and stability in the Middle East, we must make clear to the Iranians that they have to behave like a normal country.”

Iran was not the only bystander that took notice of the conference and the change it represented. So did the Palestinians, who once again did not miss the opportunity to miss an opportunity by boycotting the Warsaw gathering. Their leaders might still recall the ill-fated Oslo Accords, signed over 25 years ago, which achieved little else but bloodshed, and a lost generation of leadership for Palestinians. It is now realized that Palestinian veto power to stop normalization in the region is becoming obsolete. Cooperation in the region, for the common good of the pragmatic states, can progress despite Palestinian rejectionism.

The world understands that even if Iran’s plans materialized, and Israel were to somehow disappear, the war in Syria would continue, as would the instability in Iraq and the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. So would the civil war between Shi’ite Iran and Sunni Arabs led by Saudi Arabia. The pragmatic nations of the world realize that in the quest for a solution, Israel has more to offer than its remote real estate. A clear sign of such recognition was shown this week when Hungarian, Czech Republic, and Slovakian officials announced diplomatic offices in Jerusalem.

The Palestinians will soon need to choose between Iran and pragmatism. Time is not necessarily on their side, and until they are prepared to accept the legitimacy of the Jewish state – which they have never done – there will be no peace. In the meantime, their negotiating leverage might continue to deplete. Since taking office, Trump has taken “Jerusalem off the table,” and casually dismissed a US commitment to a two-state solution, saying the sides will decide on the matter, while indicating that he is fine with the one Jewish state. If the Palestinians continue to boycott talks while praying for an impeachment in America or Israel, they may find area C in the disputed territories annexed and the “demand of return” into Israel proper become a non-issue.

The Jared Kushner-organized conference was a powerful follow-up to his father-in-law’s “Riyadh address.” Between the address and the conference, the president has withdrawn from the dubious nuclear deal, imposed stifling sanctions on the Ayatollahs, and more. It’s now time the Saudis and other Sunni states to do more. Their active participation in Poland – alongside America’s vice president and secretary of state, the United Kingdom’s foreign minister, and the prime minister of Israel – was a good sign that a meaningful and pragmatic pact set in Poland is possible.
