1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (197 sites): Palmer Report: Sean Hannity just completely screwed himself

“President” Donald Trump had a taped interview with his bromance on the mainland, Sean “Insanity” Hannity. The two cannot help themselves but tell more sweet nothings to each other, aka lies.

In the interview, Sean Hannity told Trump, while discussing hush-money payments to Trump’s mistresses, “I can tell you personally, [Cohen] said to me at least a dozen times, that he made the decision on the payments and he didn’t tell you.” Hannity, meet House Committees. This injection into the Cohen testimony and your statements will now put you in the chair before various committees, where you will have to testify under oath. And when there, you must remember your party’s brilliant slogan, “Promises Made, Promises Kept.” You will be asked if you intend to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, and you will promise to do so. Make sure to keep those promises.

Also, you might want to retain some smart counsel. As you will recall, you fought tooth and nail last April to quash any mention of the fact that you were the third of three Michael Cohen legal clients. Maybe some have forgotten, but I am guessing the freshmen class of House Democrats populating various committees, as well as Chairs Nadler, Waters, and Schiff, have not. You can expect to be asked what that was about. You do have attorney-client privilege on that, but it may not help you.

Trump did himself no favors during the interview, claiming that Cohen made the payments of his own accord. Funny thing, though, crime exceptions to attorney-client privilege and payments of hush money might not fit into the definition of providing legal advice. Fixers and bribers are not traditionally subject to attorney-client privilege. Trump had this to say about the payments, before Hannity gave his statements: “[Cohen] did and he made the decision. Remember this, he’s an attorney – whatever decision he makes, you’re supposed to rely on your attorney to make a decision. … It’s also called reliance.”

Donald Trump’s quote also leaves a question: who told Michael Cohen that payments were necessary in the first place? Oh, and perhaps tread carefully and get some good legal help as well: how do you explain a personal check for $35,000 made payable to Cohen while you were president?

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (197 sites): Palmer Report: Sean Hannity just got himself subpoenaed in Donald Trump’s scandals

The only thing more constant than Sean Hannity’s devotion to Donald Trump? Sean Hannity’s endless stupidity. Those two things came to a head on Thursday night when Hannity interviewed Trump on Fox News. The whole thing was one big pro-Trump propaganda fest, of course. But then Hannity made an unprompted confession.

Donald Trump and Sean Hannity were discussing Michael Cohen’s illegal hush money payments to Trump’s mistresses, when Hannity said this: “I can tell you personally, [Cohen] said to me at least a dozen times that he made the decision on the payments and he didn’t tell you.” Here’s the kicker: Hannity just revealed that he’s a witness at the least, and perhaps more – and that’s enough for him to be subpoenaed.

That means we’re about to see the surreal spectacle of one or more House investigative committees hauling in Sean Hannity to testify about these supposed conversations he had with Michael Cohen. What’s more, Hannity will be under oath. He appears to be lying about the matter. If he also lies about it under oath, and it can be proven, he’ll go to prison for it. The same goes for every other lie he’s told on-air to protect Trump. But that’s just the start.

If it hasn’t already, the SDNY can now subpoena Sean Hannity and question him about the entire thing. Michael Cohen appeared to confirm yesterday that SDNY is indeed criminally investigating Donald Trump for his crimes, so Hannity can be seen as a material witness in that regard. Then again, for that matter, Cohen may have given away during his testimony that Hannity is under SDNY investigation already.

Palmer Report: Donald Trump’s exploding scandals are spiraling out of control

Suffice it to say that it hasn’t been a good week for Donald Trump, if it doesn’t go down in history as the one that unraveled his presidency and much of the GOP along with it. He was out of the country while his former fixer Michael Cohen was called in to testify before Congress – further confirming many of the details about the Moscow Trump Tower project, Roger Stone, and Stormy Daniels, potentially giving House Democrats the answers they need to subpoena Trump’s taxes, and pushing Trump’s fiercest congressional loyalists over the edge.

It’s easy to forget that Alex Acosta’s Jeffrey Epstein scandal was the news focus only a few days ago – or that the Mueller investigation was supposed to have wrapped up this week. The scandals that once dominated the news cycle for a week are coming daily now, fast and furious with no signs of slowing down. This could have been a relatively good week for Donald: no more probe, and a successful summit with the brutal dictator he allegedly fell in love with, where he could at least claim to have made some progress meeting with North Korea, and the media would have given him the benefit of the doubt. Neither of those things happened.

There were some warning signs earlier this week, when former CIA official Jeremy Bash spoke on MSNBC about his suspicion that Donald Trump would cave even further to Kim Jong-Un than he did in Singapore last summer. After all, Trump badly needed a win, so he’d be eager to please, with fewer fans willing to buy commemorative coins from this summit. Kim Jong-Un, by comparison, has managed to get a seat at the table with the United States and hasn’t destroyed a single missile since the last summit – so why start now? Sure enough, he expressed some vague interest in denuclearization yet again, and Trump left the summit saying it doesn’t have to happen in a hurry.

The summit turned out even worse than we anticipated – ending two hours early with no written agreement. Naturally, Donald Trump blames it on North Korea asking for a total lift of sanctions. Perhaps even he knows that any deal made after the unproductive Singapore talks would be scrutinized heavily. Perhaps he was overwhelmed by the news back home. Either way, time is clearly no longer on Donald Trump’s side.

The Trump Organization’s coming “proctology exam”

Near the end of Michael Cohen’s testimony yesterday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez asked the former fixer whether President Trump had ever run an insurance fraud. Cohen said yes, naming three Trump Organization executives: Allen Weisselberg, Ron Lieberman and Matthew Calamari.
Why it matters: Cohen offered no proof for this allegation — and given his record of lying, his claims can’t be believed without evidence. But by making this allegation — and coughing up the names of the executives — Cohen gave House investigators and federal prosecutors yet another trail to chase.
  • Unless you’re a student of The Trump Organization — the thinly-staffed Trump family business — you may never have heard of Weisselberg, Lieberman or Calamari.
  • But over the next year, these men and their colleagues may become household names as they endure a far-reaching, multi-armed investigation into Trump’s family business and personal finances.
The bottom line: “This organization has never had a proctology exam like it’s about to get,” Bloomberg’s Timothy O’Brien told me shortly after watching Cohen’s testimony. “It’s going to surface records. That’s going to become problematic for all of them to keep their stories straight.”
  • O’Brien is in a good position to know. In 2006, Trump tried — and failed — to sue O’Brien for $5 billion for writing that Trump had a much lower net worth than he claimed.
  • In the course of that litigation, because Trump went after O’Brien on financial grounds, O’Brien got his tax returns and financial records.
Here’s what Trump’s businesses face:
  • Five House committees (Financial Services, Intel, Judiciary, Oversight, Ways and Means) plan to look at Trump’s business deals and finances.
  • The state of Maryland and the District of Columbia are suing Trump, alleging he violated the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution by taking gifts from foreign governments through his properties.
  • The New York attorney general has a lawsuit against the Trump Foundation, alleging Trump misused his charitable foundation in a “shocking pattern of illegality.” Cohen may have bolstered that case yesterday.
  • The Southern District of New York has dealt with Trump Organization executives in its investigation of Cohen.
By all accounts, Trump still has Weisselberg’s loyalty. NBC reported yesterday that Weisselberg still works with The Trump Organization and has never been a cooperating witness against Trump.
  • “Any law enforcement person who’s trying to build a case around insurance fraud, tax fraud, money laundering is going to have to wind up spending a lot of time [with] … Allen Weisselberg,” says O’Brien, who spent time with Weisselberg while writing his book “TrumpNation.”
  • “It’s the classic thing: Follow the money.”
Axios reached out to senior Trump Organization executives Alan Garten and George Sorial for comment on Cohen’s allegations against Weisselberg, Lieberman and Calamari. They didn’t respond.

A scorecard of key players in U.S. special counsel Russia probe

Michael_Novakhov shared this story .

(Reuters) – Special Counsel Robert Mueller and other U.S. prosecutors have been investigating whether President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign conspired with Russia and whether the president unlawfully tried to obstruct the inquiry.

FILE PHOTO: U.S. President Donald Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr. speaks during a campaign event for Republican congressional candidate Rick Saccone at the Blaine Hill Volunteer Fire dept. in Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania, U.S. March 12, 2018. REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo

U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded Russia interfered in the presidential election with a campaign of hacking and propaganda to sow discord in the United States and damage the Republican Trump’s Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton. Russia denies it. Trump has denied collusion and obstruction of justice.
Here are some key figures in the investigation.

DONALD TRUMP JR.

Trump’s eldest son set up a June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower in New York with a Kremlin-linked lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, and other Russians who had offered damaging information on Clinton. In an email after being promised the Clinton “dirt,” Trump Jr. wrote “I love it.” When news of the meeting broke in July 2017, Trump Jr. issued a statement saying the meeting was set up to discuss adoption policy, not politics, before later admitting he had been expecting intelligence on Clinton.
President Trump’s advisers eventually said the president dictated the misleading statement put out in his son’s name, after initially denying his involvement.

JARED KUSHNER

Trump’s son-in-law has served as a senior adviser to him as both candidate and president. Kushner initially did not list any Russian contacts on his application for a White House security clearance, but subsequently revised those forms to reveal he had participated in the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting and discussed setting up a secure communications line at the Russian Embassy in Washington after Trump won the November 2016 election with Sergei Kislyak, then-Russian ambassador to the United States.

JEFF SESSIONS

Sessions, a longtime U.S. senator from Alabama, served as a campaign adviser and then Trump’s first attorney general. During his Senate confirmation hearings he said he did not meet with Russian officials during the campaign, but later admitted he had met at least twice with Kislyak. Under pressure, he recused himself from oversight of the Russia investigation, which at the time was led by the FBI and later by Mueller. The recusal angered Trump, who eventually fired Sessions in November 2018.

MICHAEL FLYNN

A retired U.S. Army lieutenant general, Flynn was a top campaign adviser and served as Trump’s first national security adviser until he was fired after only weeks on the job for lying about his conversations with Kislyak in December 2017, after Trump won the election but before he took office. Flynn discussed U.S. sanctions with Russia and asked the ambassador for help with a U.N. vote, according to court filings. Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and has been cooperating with investigators.
Before he joined Trump’s campaign, Flynn sat next to Russian President Vladimir Putin at a Moscow dinner in December 2015 celebrating RT, a pro-Kremlin Russian-owned English language media channel.

PAUL MANAFORT

Manafort served on Trump’s campaign from March to August 2016, including three months as chairman, ensuring Trump secured the Republican presidential nomination during the party’s convention in Cleveland. During that time, the Republican Party softened its support for arming U.S. allies in Ukraine.
He participated in the Trump Tower meeting with Russians who offered damaging information on Clinton.
Manafort’s lawyers said that after the convention he shared election polling data and discussed a way to end the Ukraine conflict with Russian Konstantin Kilimnik, a former business associate who Mueller’s team has called an agent of the Kremlin.
Manafort faces decades in prison for crimes relating to his work earning millions of dollars as a political consultant and lobbyist for pro-Russian politicians in Ukraine. He was found guilty of bank and tax fraud and has pleaded guilty to separate lobbying violations. A judge ruled on Feb. 13 that Manafort violated his plea agreement with prosecutors by repeatedly lying to Mueller’s team.

RICK GATES

Manafort’s longtime lobbying associate served as deputy campaign chairman and worked on the transition after Trump was elected. Gates pleaded guilty to lying to investigators and was a star witness in Manafort’s 2018 trial, testifying that he helped his boss file false tax returns and hide millions of dollars offshore. Gates has continued to cooperate with the investigation, according to court filings.

MICHAEL COHEN

Trump’s former longtime personal attorney once boasted that he would take a bullet for his boss, but has since turned on him. In a series of guilty pleas, Cohen said he worked on a deal to build a Trump tower in Moscow for nearly a year while Trump was running for president, and acted at Trump’s direction to break campaign-finance laws by arranging “hush money” payments to women who claim to have had sexual relationships with Trump. Cohen’s turn against Trump was on dramatic display in his congressional testimony on Wednesday, accusing the president of being a “racist,” “conman” and “cheat.”

ROGER STONE

Stone is a self-proclaimed political “dirty trickster” who has known Trump for about four decades. Stone is accused of telling members of Trump’s presidential campaign that he knew in advance of plans by the WikiLeaks website to release damaging emails about Clinton. Cohen has said he heard Stone tell Trump on the telephone in July 2016 about a forthcoming release by WikiLeaks of the stolen emails.
U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded the emails were stolen by Russians. They sowed division among Democratic voters by showing that Democratic Party officials had favored Clinton over insurgent candidate Bernie Sanders.

Cohen arrives for closed-door testimony

INTERNET RESEARCH AGENCY

Muller’s team has said this St. Petersburg-based organization tried to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election through fake social-media accounts, aiming to spread distrust about the candidates and the American political system. The organization employed hundreds of people, according to an indictment.

RUDY GIULIANI

The former New York mayor and 2008 Republican presidential candidate has offered a freewheeling defense of the president in the news media since signing on as Trump’s personal lawyer in April 2018. Giuliani has occasionally misstated facts, drawing rebukes from Trump or other members of his administration.

MARIA BUTINA

This Russian woman, a former graduate student at American University in Washington, has admitted to trying to infiltrate the influential National Rifle Association lobby group and make inroads with conservative activists and Republicans as an agent for Moscow in a criminal case in parallel with the Mueller investigation. Butina pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge in December 2018 and has agreed to cooperate with U.S. investigators.

JAMES COMEY

As FBI director, Comey oversaw the initial stages of the Russia investigation until Trump fired him in May 2017. The White House initially said Comey was fired because he had mishandled a 2016 investigation into Clinton’s emails, but shortly thereafter Trump told NBC that he had “this Russia thing” on his mind in the dismissal. Comey has said that Trump pressured him to end the investigation of Flynn.

CARTER PAGE

The Trump foreign-policy adviser met with Russian officials in Moscow in July 2016, and has said he reported back to Sessions and other senior campaign officials after the trip. His contacts attracted suspicion from the FBI, which said in surveillance applications that it believed Page “has been collaborating and conspiring with the Russian Government” and had established relationships with Russian intelligence officers. Page, who has not been charged, has said he did nothing wrong.

A doctor at a Florida hospital for veterans was shot by a patient, a double amputee in a wheelchair, as the patient was taken to the emergency room Wednesday evening, officials said.
Larry Ray Bon, 59, of Michigan, opened fire with a handgun about 6:20 p.m. at West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, Justin Fleck, assistant special agent in charge at the Miami FBI Office, said at a news conference Wednesday night.

The doctor was struck while attempting to subdue the man.
“It was very brave,” Fleck said of the doctor, who has not been identified. “He was pretty heroic and probably saved a lot of lives.”
The physician was transported to a local hospital and released Wednesday evening, Fleck said. A second VA employee was also grazed and suffered minimal injuries, officials said.
Bon served in the U.S. Army for just over a month in the 1970s, and his double amputation is not thought to be the result of any military-related service, according to the FBI.

A spokesperson for the hospital said that the facility has been secured and that appointments and procedures scheduled for Thursday would not be affected.

Trump Exaggerated His Wealth in Bid for Loan, Michael Cohen Tells Congress

Michael_Novakhov shared this story .

But the documents provide a glimpse of values Mr. Trump assigned to some of his properties that are out of line with other available estimates.
[The testimony could create more legal issues for the president.]
On his 2012 balance sheet, Mr. Trump described an estate he owns in Westchester County, N.Y., as being worth $291 million. He bought the property, Seven Springs, in 1996 for $7.5 million. In 2018, Mr. Trump said in a federal ethics filingthat the property was worth no more than $50 million.
Also in 2012 — just as the economy was beginning to recover from the financial crisis — Mr. Trump valued his skyscraper at 40 Wall Street in Lower Manhattan at $527 million. An article in The Wall Street Journal that year reported that property had a value of about $400 million, based on sales of comparable properties. It would be three more years until the building achieved Mr. Trump’s valuation, according to Trepp, which tracks commercial real estate lending.
The 2012 Journal article also estimated that Mr. Trump’s golf resorts and related real estate in the United States and Scotland were worth nearly $1.6 billion. The Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index as of this week valued those properties at $650 million.
In the 2013 financial statement, Mr. Trump said that $4 billion of his nearly $9 billion net worth was attributable to his “brand value.” He did not report such a hard-to-measure asset in 2011 and 2012.
The financial statements for 2011 and 2012 carry the heading “compilation reports,” which in accounting terms means that the accountants that prepared them merely compiled information from their client without auditing the underlying figures. The 2013 statement does not appear to have been prepared by an accountant, and includes language that is not part of generally accepted accounting principles.
[Mr. Cohen characterized the president as a con man, a cheat and a racist.]
Determining the value of huge pieces of real estate is an exercise in subjectivity. In Mr. Trump’s case, according to bankers who have worked with him, he tended to make assumptions that were more aggressive than others in the real estate business would. For example, they said, he often made unrealistic forecasts about how much revenue he expected a property to generate, a practice that would result in a greatly inflated value for that asset.

Cohen’s testimony about Trump alleges lie after lie

Washington – In a damning depiction of Donald Trump, the president’s former lawyer cast him as a racist and a con man who used his inner circle to cover up politically damaging allegations about sex and who lied throughout the 2016 election campaign about his business interests in Russia.
A day after publicly testifying before the House’s oversight committee, Michael Cohen is expected to continue testifying about his work with Trump and knowledge of the Trump business empire when he appears Thursday before the House intelligence committee, albeit behind closed doors.
Cohen, who previously pleaded guilty to lying to Congress, told lawmakers Wednesday that Trump had advance knowledge and embraced the news that emails damaging to Democratic rival Hillary Clinton would be released during the campaign. But he also said he had no “direct evidence” that Trump or his aides colluded with Russia to get him elected, the primary question of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
Cohen, shaking off incessant criticism from Republicans anxious to paint him as a felon and a liar, became the first Trump insider to pull back the curtain on a version of the inner workings of Trump’s political and business operations. He likened the president to a “mobster” who demanded blind loyalty from underlings and expected them to lie on his behalf to conceal information and protect him – even if it meant breaking the law.
“I am not protecting Mr. Trump anymore,” Cohen declared.
“My loyalty to Mr. Trump has cost me everything: my family’s happiness, friendships, my law license, my company, my livelihood, my honor, my reputation and soon my freedom,” Cohen said. “I will not sit back, say nothing and allow him to do the same to the country.”
Cohen’s matter-of-fact testimony about secret payments and lies unfolded as Trump met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. At a Vietnam hotel and unable to ignore the drama thousands of miles away, Trump lashed out on Twitter, saying Cohen “did bad things unrelated to Trump” and “is lying in order to reduce his prison time.”
Later, Trump, speaking at a press conference in Vietnam after the summit with Kim ended early, said he was a “little impressed” that Cohen told Congress there was “no collusion” between his presidential campaign and Russia.
Trump said Thursday he tried to watch as much of Cohen’s marathon congressional hearing as he could. He slammed the hearing as “fake” and said it was a “terrible thing” for Democrats to hold it during the summit.
In testimony that cut to the heart of federal investigations encircling the White House, Cohen said he arranged a hush money payment to a porn actress at Trump’s behest and agreed to lie about it to the public and the first lady. Cohen said he had lied by claiming that Trump was “not knowledgeable” about the transaction even though Trump had directly arranged for his reimbursement. And he said he was left with the unmistakable impression Trump wanted him to lie to Congress about a Moscow real estate project, though the president never directly told him so.
In one revelation, Cohen said prosecutors in New York were investigating conversations Trump or his advisers had with him after his office and hotel room were raided by the FBI last April. Cohen said he could not discuss that conversation, the last contact he said he has had with the president or anyone acting on his behalf, because it remains under investigation.
The appearance marked the latest step in Cohen’s evolution from legal fixer for the president – he once boasted he’d “take a bullet” for Trump – to a foe who has implicated him in federal campaign finance violations. The hearing proceeded along parallel tracks, with Democrats focusing on allegations against Trump while Republicans sought to undermine Cohen’s credibility and the proceeding itself.
As Republicans blasted him as a convicted liar, a mostly unrattled Cohen sought to blunt the attacks by repeatedly acknowledging his own failings. He called himself a “fool,” warned lawmakers of the perils of blind loyalty to a leader undeserving of it and pronounced himself ashamed of what he’d done to protect Trump.
Cohen is due to begin a three-year prison sentence in May, and he described himself as cooperative with multiple investigations in hopes of reducing his time behind bars. He is seen as a vital witness for federal prosecutors because of his proximity to the president during key episodes under investigation and their decade-long professional relationship.
The first of six Trump aides charged in the Trump-Russia investigation to testify publicly about crimes committed during the 2016 campaign and in the months that followed, Cohen also delivered biting personal commentary on a president he said never expected to win in the first place.
“He never expected to win the primary. He never expected to win the general election,” Cohen said. “The campaign – for him – was always a marketing opportunity.”
He recounted how Trump made him threaten schools he attended to not release his grades and SAT scores and denigrated blacks as “too stupid” to vote for him. He said Trump once confided to him that, despite his public explanation of a medical deferment from the Vietnam War because of bone spurs, he never had any intention of fighting there.
“I find it ironic, President Trump, that you are in Vietnam right now,” Cohen said.
Cohen gave lawmakers his first-person account of how he arranged to buy the silence of porn actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal, who said they had sex with Trump. He described a February 2017 conversation with Trump in the Oval Office in which the president reassured him that reimbursement checks sent through Federal Express were coming but would take some time to get through the White House system.
He said the president spoke to him a year later to discuss the public messaging around the transaction and had even once put his wife, Melania Trump, on the phone so that Cohen could lie to her.
“Lying to the first lady is one of my biggest regrets,” Cohen said. “She is a kind, good person. I respect her greatly, and she did not deserve that.”
Federal prosecutors in New York have said Trump directed Cohen to arrange payments to buy the silence of the porn actress and the former Playboy model in the run-up to the 2016 campaign. Cohen has said he acted out of “blind loyalty.”
He said he was presenting the committee with a copy of a check Trump wrote from his personal bank account after he became president to reimburse Cohen for the hush money payments. He offered up other exhibits as well, including examples of financial statements he said Trump had drawn up to show he was wealthier than he really was.
In an allegation relating to Mueller’s probe, Cohen said he overheard Trump confidant Roger Stone telling the candidate in the summer of 2016 that WikiLeaks would dump damaging information about Clinton.
Trump put Stone on speakerphone as Stone relayed that he had communicated with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and that “within a couple of days, there would be a massive dump of emails that would damage Hillary Clinton’s campaign,” Cohen said. Damaging emails U.S. officials say were hacked by Russia were later released by WikiLeaks.
Trump responded by saying “wouldn’t that be great,” Cohen said.
Stone disputed that account Wednesday, and Barry Pollack, a lawyer for Assange, said Stone and Assange did not have the telephone call that Cohen described.
Cohen’s claims that Trump had advance knowledge of the emails contradict the president’s assertions that he was in the dark, and it is unclear how legally problematic that could be for Trump anyway. Mueller has not suggested that mere awareness of WikiLeaks’ plans, as Stone is purported to have had, is by itself a crime.
Cohen also suggested Trump implicitly told him to lie about a Moscow real estate project. Cohen has admitted lying about the project, which he says Trump knew about as Cohen was negotiating with Russia during the campaign. Cohen said Trump did not directly tell him to lie, but “he would look me in the eye and tell me there’s no business in Russia and then go out and lie to the American people by saying the same thing.”
Cohen said he does not have direct evidence that Trump colluded with the Russian government during the election but he has “suspicions,” including after a June 2016 meeting between the president’s oldest son and a Kremlin-connected lawyer.
“I wouldn’t use the word ‘colluding.’ Was there something odd about the back-and-forth praise with President Putin?” Cohen said. “Yes, but I’m not really sure I can answer that question in terms of collusion.”

Before the start of business, Just Security provides a curated summary of up-to-the-minute developments at home and abroad. Here’s today’s news.
TRUMP-KIM SUMMIT
Talks between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Hanoi ended abruptly today after the parties failed to remedy the impasse over U.S. sanctions on the North. Trump blamed the breakdown on Pyongyang’s insistence that all sanctions leveled by the U.S. be lifted without a firm commitment to eliminating its nuclear arsenal, Jonathan Lemire, Deb Riechmann and Foster Klug report at the Washington Post.
“It was about the sanctions,” Trump commented, adding “basically, they wanted the sanctions lifted in their entirety, and we couldn’t do that. They were willing to denuke a large portion of the areas we wanted, but we couldn’t give up all of the sanctions for that,” Rebecca Kheel reports at the Hill.
“I am never afraid to walk from a deal,” Trump told reporters after the summit collapsed. However, the president would not close the door to future negotiations between the two sides, saying that “eventually we’ll get there,” Jonathan Cheng and Vivian Salama report at the Wall Street Journal.
“We had some options … at this time we decided not to do any of the options … we’ll see where that goes,” the president claimed at a press conference moved forward by almost two hours after the talks collapsed. The summit ended with a handshake, according to Trump, who described the talks as “very friendly,” Jonathan Allen and F. Brinley Bruton report at NBC.
Trump claimed that he and Kim had discussed the dismantling of North Korea’s main nuclear facility at Yongbyon during the talks. Kim was allegedly willing to shut down the plant, but sanctions relief once again remained the sticking point, Reuters reports.
Trump said he does not hold Kim responsible for the death of U.S. student Otto Warmbier, who was released and sent back to the U.S. in a coma in June 2017 after more than a year of imprisonment in the North, dying within days of arrival. “He felt badly about it … he felt very badly,” Trump said at the press conference, claiming the leaers had discussed the matter privately and adding: “he tells me that he didn’t know about it and I will take him at his word,” Jeremy Diamond reports at CNN.
“From what I feel right now … I do have a feeling that good results will come out,” Kim stated in answer to a question from a journalist as to whether he was “confident.” Kim’s move to directly answer the question marked “a stunning — and possibly unprecedented” move, Caitlyn Oprysko comments at POLITICO.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in described the breakdown of nuclear talks as unfortunate, but expressed hope that the U.S. and the North continue an active dialogue. The collapse of the Vietnam summit marks a setback for Moon, who had planned to announce new proposals for inter-Korean engagement, possibly including economic cooperation, in a ceremony tomorrow marking the 100th anniversary of a 1919 uprising by Koreans against Japanese colonial rule, Kim Tong-Hyung reports at the AP.
“Every effort was made in recreating the circumstances and ambience of Singapore,” Julian Borger comments in an analysis at the Guardian, noting that “like most theatrical reboots, the strain in keeping things the same in Vietnam highlighted the small way things changed.”
A selection of photographs from the Hanoi summit are provided at the New York Times.
MICHAEL COHEN HEARING
President Trump’s longtime personal lawyer and “fixer” Michael Cohen yesterday accused the president of a wide-ranging pattern of lies and criminality, laying out for Congress a damning depiction of life in the president’s inner circle. In his public testimony to the House of Representatives Oversight Committee yesterday, Cohen claimed that Trump lied to the public about business interests in Moscow, lied to reporters about stolen Democratic emails and told him to lie about “hush money” payments made to cover up his affairs, Peter Baker and Nicholas Fandos report at the New York Times.
Cohen stated that Trump “knew of and directed” plans for a Trump Tower Moscow, all the while stating publicly that he had no dealings in Russia. “At the same time I was actively negotiating in Russia for him,” Cohen testified, “he would look me in the eye and tell me there’s no business in Russia and then go out and lie to the American people by saying the same thing … in his way, he was telling me to lie,” the BBC reports.
Cohen alleged that Trump blessed the meeting his son Donald Trump Jr. held with a Russian delegation to obtain dirt on Trump’s presidential opponents in 2016. Regarding the organization of the infamous June 2016 Trump Tower meeting, Cohen claimed “there was nothing that happened at the Trump Organization … that did not go through Mr. Trump for his approval and signoff,” Philip Ewing reports at NPR.
“Don Jr. would never set up any meeting of any significance alone—and certainly not without checking with his father,” Cohen stated. He added that “what struck me as I looked back and thought about that exchange between Don Jr. and his father was, first, that Mr. Trump had frequently told me and others that his son Don Jr. had the worst judgment of anyone in the world,” Barbie Latza Nadeau reports at The Daily Beast.
Cohen also asserted that Trump knew in advance that WikiLeaks planned in July 2016 to release a batch of emails damaging to his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton. Cohen testified that he overheard a phone call from longtime Trump associate Roger Stone in which Stone allegedly informed Trump he had spoken by telephone with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and learned that the anti-secrecy group would be publishing a “massive dump” of Clinton emails within days; Cohen said he could hear the conversation because Trump had put Stone on speaker phone, and that Trump had responded “wouldn’t that be great,” Matt Zapotosky, Rosalind S. Helderman, Karoun Demirijan and Rachel Bade report at the Washington Post.
“He once asked me if I could name a country run by a black person that wasn’t a ‘shithole,’” Cohen claimed, citing a number of other examples of Trump making racist comments to him. The Daily Beast reports.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) clashed during the Cohen hearing over the allegations of racism, with Tlaib condemning as a “racist act” Meadows’ use of a statement by a single black woman in an attempt disprove the allegations of racism against the president. Meadows had invited Trump administration staffer Lynne Patton to the hearing to push back against Cohen’s allegations; Tlaib told the hearing “just because someone has a person of color, a black person working for them does not mean that they aren’t racist… the fact that someone would actually use a prop, a black woman in this chamber, in this committee, is alone racist in itself,” Jacqueline Thomsen reports at the Hill.
“He lied a lot …he lied about so many different things,” Trump stated in Hanoi at the close of his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un when asked about the Cohen hearing. However, Trump said he was “impressed” that Cohen said he had no evidence for collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia – although in fact Cohen did not unequivocally deny that such collusion had taken place, Jeremy Diamond reports at CNN.
WikiLeaks yesterday contradicted Cohen’s congressional testimony, sending a message on Twitter stating that “WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange has never had a telephone call with Roger Stone … WikiLeaks publicly teased its pending publications on Hillary Clinton and published > 30k of her emails on 16 March 2016,” Rachel Frazin reports at the Hill.
MICHAEL COHEN HEARING: OPINION AND ANALYSIS
Hearing Cohen’s allegations made openly before Congress “crystallized how extraordinary they are,” the Economistcomments in an account of yesterday’s hearing.
Democrats are reportedly vowing that Cohen’s “marathon” appearance is just “the beginning,” foreshadowing intensifying scrutiny of the president’s businesses and his 2016 campaign’s relations with Russia. Courtney Weaver provides an analysis at the Financial Times.
“Even if those watching didn’t believe anything else he said … [Cohen] left no doubt that he is working closely with prosecutors in Manhattan’s Southern District in criminal investigations that could end up roiling the Trump presidency,”Ken Dilanian explains at NBC.
The most significant bombshell arising from Cohen’s written testimony provided to Congress ahead of yesterday’s hearing was the statement that Roger Stone informed candidate Trump in advance of Wikileaks’ release of the stolen emails – and Trump’s corresponding words of encouragement. Editor-in-Chief Ryan Goodman comments at Just Security.
“Tlaib is right: it’s racist to use a black woman as a prop,” Sophia A. Nelson comments at The Daily Beast in a rebuke of Meadows’ tactics at the hearing.
Roundups of key takeaways from yesterday’s hearing are provided at the Guardian, the Hill and the New York Times.
VENEZUELA
The U.S. is calling for a vote on a U.N. resolution urging “the peaceful restoration of democracy” in Venezuela – including free and fair presidential elections; unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to all people in need; and making clear its support for opposition leader and self-declared interim president Juan Guaidó. The draft resolution is expected to be put to a vote this afternoon, according to a council diplomat, but it is likely to face a veto from Russia, which backs incumbent Venezuelan President Nicolâs Maduro, Edith M. Lederer reports at the AP.
Guaidó has reportedly returned safely to Venezuela, where the government is threatening to jail him. Ryan Dube reports at the Wall Street Journal.
SYRIA
Hundreds of people streamed out of Islamic State group’s last enclave in Syria under escort from U.S.-backed forces yesterday, as part of an exodus of both the militants’ supporters and victims from its final patch of land in the village of Baghouz. Reuters reports.
U.S.-led airstrikes continue. U.S. and coalition forces carried out 199 airstrikes against Islamic State targets in Syria between Jan. 27 and Feb. 9. [Central Command]
OTHER DEVELOPMENTS
Eight panels representing prototypes of designs for President Trump’s long-promised wall at the Southern border were demolished in California yesterday. John Bowden reports at the Hill.
Taliban and U.S. officials holding talks in Qatar on ways to end the war in Afghanistan have held “extensive” discussions on how foreign troops could be withdrawn and on how to guarantee the country would not be used again by outside forces to attack other countries, the Taliban said in a statement released today. U.S. special peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad said in a message on Twitter that the meetings in Doha were productive, Reuters reports.
A U.S. delegation including Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner met Tuesday with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in the first known face-to-face meeting since the Saudi government’s involvement in the killing of Washington Post columnist and Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi. Katie Galioto reports at POLITICO.
Five transgender troops fighting to overturn President Trump’s proposed ban on trans servicepeople yesterday gave evidence to Congress, “making history with their moving testimonies.” Tim Teeman provides an account at The Daily Beast

M.N.: This is a very important story. It confirms my impressions, formed earlier, that the Orthodox Judaism in general, and its various offshoots , such as “Chabad Lubavitch” and other “Hasidic movements“, just like the State of Israel itself (God bless it), are nothing less and nothing more than the creations of the Abwehr and the New Abwehr (after WW2), which themselves were and are predominantly half or part Jewish, especially in their “top heavy” leadership circles, including Canaris himself and most of his commanding officers, as exemplified by this particular one described in this article

It was a historically formed and a historically determined circumstance: the ethnically German junkers looked down upon the Intelligence work which, as they felt, was not compatible with their ideal of the “honest military service”, and they gladly or by necessity gave this area to the Jews and part Jews to manage. Another half of this formula might have been in the objective military observations that the smart, creative, ambitious, and quite German-wise patriotic Jews were simply much better and more efficient in this area, and they accepted and practiced this observation as the rule of their science and arts of wars and espionage.

For the half and part Jewish Abwehr officers this “half and half” became their ideal and their elaborate “philosophy“: the fusion of the Germanic and the Hebrew Spirits and their best embodiment and representations (in the high Abwehr officers, of course).

It also included the criteria for the personnel selection; most of the Abwehr high officers do LOOK half or part Jewish

This point is very important for the understanding of the Abwehr’s and the New Abwehr’s psychology, outlook, and the nature, the character, and the distinguishing, the “diagnostic” features of their operations

The New Abwehr apparently, influences and manipulates the Orthodox Judaic movements, especially their pet project, the “Chabad Lubavitch” and other “Hasidic movements” quite heavily and almost absolutely invisibly, masking and advertising their “Putin connection” as the quite efficient, convenient, and convincing cover.

These issues need the sophisticated and in-depth research.

With regard to Trump Investigations, this assumption, or the working hypothesis, as described above, has the direct bearing and is a factor in understanding the Sphinx The Regent Jared Kushner, his family, their origins, and the origins of their wealth

The so called “Bielski Partisans” absolutely could not exist, function, and survive (quite nicely, with the trainloads of the robbed Nazi Gold and jewelry, which they later invested in the US real estate and other successful business ventures-rackets) without the overt or tacit approval and consent from the Abwehr which controlled everything on the occupied territories

The Kushner Crime Family was the tool: kapos and the enforcers for the Abwehr. They became their money launderes and money managers after the WW2, when Abwehr moved them to the US

The Trump Crime Family was the long term Abwehr assets, starting from Frederich Trump, Donald’s grandfather, who run the bordellos for them, and including Fred Trump, Donald’s father who built the “economy” housing for the newly arrived Abwehr agents, mixed into the mass of the legitimate refugees, and who also became the money launderer and the money manager for the Abwehr and the New Abwehr

Recently they (the New Abwehr planners) decided to merge these two families into a singleTrump-Kushner Crime Family, in what was clearly the arranged marriage between Jared and Ivanka, in preparation and as the first step towards Operation Trump
It was helped, as the apparent second step in this arrangement, by Wendi Deng the “Chinese spy”, as alleged and circulated by Rupert Murdoch, her husband at the time. Both of them, just as, hypothetically, the FOX News Corporation were (and are?) heavily influenced by the New Abwehr. For Murdoch this proclivity apparently also runs in a family.  This is the apparent pattern of this prudent way of family recruitment; universally, and for the Abwehr in particular.

This aspect is also important for the understanding of the role that Felix Sater and his “Chabad” sect played in the “Trump – Russia Affair“.

This thesis about the connection between the Orthodox Judaism and Abwehr is also consistent with the “Abwehr Diagnostic Triad” which was formulated by me earlier, as consisting of:

  1) Judeophobia (as the psychological product of these described above circumstances: the Abwehr half Jews were the GOOD (half) JEWS, all the rest were “very bad, sick, and contaminating” Jews),

2) Homophobia (the so called “Internalized Homophobia“, stemming from the personal aspects of the Abwehr leadership and reflecting the general, very permissive attitude towards homosexuality among the German military circles before and especially in the aftermath of the WW1), and

3) the specific Austrophobia or the so called Anti-Austrian sentiment (distrust and hate of all things Austrian), which stems from the Austro – Prussian War of 1866 and from the Austria–Prussia rivalry.

In the “Trump Affair”, the Austrophobia aspect is expressed by the New Abwehr planners in the concept of the “decadent and dishonest, not to be trusted”, part Jewish, Hapsburg Group, and this circumstance can be viewed as the particularly “telling”, or highly suggestive and indicative, “pathognomonic“, of the Abwehr operations.

Palmer Report: There’s something really weird going on with Donald Trump’s campaign website

Something strange is going on with Donald Trump’s reelection campaign website. As you would expect with any incumbent, Trump offers a timeline of what he considers to be his accomplishments, beginning with his inauguration. The odd thing is that the timeline sputters in November of 2018 and stops short on December 18, 2018. It is not clear why the timeline has not been updated in months, and none of the possible explanations look good.

When sites stop getting updated, a common reason is a lack of staff. But the idea that the campaign does not have the personnel available to keep the sitting president’s site updated is hard to believe. Each accomplishment on the site is a single sentence, so adding a new accomplishment would only take a minute. Plus, Team Trump has every reason to keep that timeline current, as formidable challengers are throwing their hats into the ring.

Another possible explanation is that Trump campaign staffers can’t figure out how to spin their candidate’s recent shenanigans into bona fide accomplishments. Two days after December 18, Trump “accomplished” getting James Mattis, his Defense Secretary, to resign in protest of Trump’s ill-advised Syria troop withdrawal announcement. A couple days later, Trump “accomplished” shutting down the government, which inflicted widespread pain on American citizens and the economy. In the process, Trump “accomplished” making clear that his promise that Mexico would pay for the wall was officially dead. Although Trump may think all this is tremendous, it does not look impressive on a presidential reelection campaign site.

A third possible explanation is that the campaign came to the sober realization that a few boastful sentences are not going to win over undecided voters. Trump famously said, “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters.” The campaign knows that the Trump faithful will vote for him no matter what they put on his site.

Maybe it is time for the Trump campaign to remove the ridiculous greeting that appears at the top of the site: “Learn of the many accomplishments of Donald J. Trump that often go unreported by the Fake News Media as he continues to Make America Great Again.” People cannot talk about accomplishments that do not exist.

Trump Exaggerated His Wealth in Bid for Loan, Michael Cohen Tells Congress

.

Trump said in a federal ethics filing that the property was worth no more than $50 million.
