By now it’s abundantly clear that Donald Trump’s doctors aren’t being straight with us. They insist he’s in good condition, even as they admit they’ve moved on to a third experimental drug treatment to try to get his coronavirus under control. The public isn’t buying this nonsense, so why are they bothering to put on this show in front of the TV cameras?
It turns out Trump’s doctors may be performing for an audience of one. We all know that Donald Trump is lying in his hospital bed watching his doctors on TV. During his press briefing today, Dr. Conley said that he refused to admit the severity of Trump’s condition during yesterday’s briefing because “I didn’t want to give any information that might steer the illness in another direction.”
Wait a minute here. There’s no way Dr. Conley believes that admitting the seriousness of Trump’s illness to the public is somehow going to make Trump’s illness get worse. Instead he seems to be worried that Trump will hear about the seriousness of his condition on TV and start to give up, which could indeed serve to make his condition even worse. When seriously ill patients stop fighting, they can go further downhill.
This comes amid reports that Donald Trump keeps asking the people around him if he’s going to die, so it would make sense that Trump’s doctors are indeed worried about him finding out about the seriousness of his condition. But if Trump really is that psychologically fragile about his illness, he has no business still holding office.
