When Donald Trump had the Secret Service drive him around the block and back today before depositing him back into his hospital room at Walter Reed Medical Center, it was immediately scandalous. Trump exposed the agents to the virus in closed airtight quarters for no good reason.
Now the Washington Post is reporting that Trump did it because he was “bored.” He was bored? Millions of Americans have been locked in their houses or severely limited in their movements for the better part of the year because of the plague that Trump negligently and dishonestly let loose on the nation – but he’s been in a lavish hospital suite for two days and he’s bored?
As the true horror and deranged insanity of Trump’s coronavirus joyride incident continues to sink in tonight, it’s becoming clear that he’s forced the issue when it comes to the 25th Amendment. The hashtag #25thAmendmentNow is trending atop Twitter because so many people are now calling for it. It’s abundantly clear that due to his coronavirus, or the mood altering coronavirus drugs he’s currently on, or simply his ongoing derangement, he’s categorically unfit to remain on the job.
Do we expect Mike Pence to actually pull the trigger and invoke the 25th Amendment? No. Not yet, at least. If Pence does that, he and Donald Trump will lose the election for sure. But there could soon come a point where the Republicans in the House and Senate conclude that Trump is going to lose no matter what, and that they’re also going to lose their seats if Trump remains in power, and they could end up pressuring Pence to make a move. And if he doesn’t, the public will continue making the 25th Amendment an issue all the way to election day.
